Greek Animal Rescue is a small UK registered charity which is run entirely by a handful of unpaid volunteers who are dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the abused, abandoned and neglected animals of Greece.  The primary focus is to promote, co-ordinate and provide funding for sterilizing campaigns. Greek Animal Rescue also provide financial and practical assistance to local organizations and individuals involved in animal welfare within their community. Also lobbies the Greek government for better, properly implemented animal welfare legislation.

The Hellenic Animal Welfare Society was founded in 1975 with the aim to protect stray animals, mainly those in urgent need. It has a veterinary center and a station, with specialized staff and two stray animal ambulances for collection, control of stray births and their health, in cooperation with participating municipalities and organizations. The focus of all the activities of the HAWS is the control of the health and population (sterilization) of stray animals, their care and the special adoption contract for their surveillance. There is also a special department for animals that have been lost or found in order to reunite with their owners or find a new home. The Hellenic Animal Welfare Society helps dozens of strays with their own resources each year if municipalities or citizens cannot afford to. It trains dozens of students in order to become responsible animal lovers, distributes leaflets to instill a love for animals in Greece and participates in international campaigns and fights for better living conditions for different kinds of animals around the planet.

Ghost Dogs of Aspropyrgos is a community of volunteers organized through social networks in 2012 to care for abandoned and abused animals in inaccessible areas of Aspropyrgos area, Greece. They organize on-site activities, frequent visits to provide food and drugs for the abandoned animals, transfer them to hospitals and help with adoptions in Greece and abroad in collaboration with organizations around the world.

Stray.gr was founded in 2003 and consists exclusively of volunteers. The Panhellenic Animal Welfare and Environmental Federation, was established in December 2010 and is the largest animal welfare organization in Greece consisting of 66 associations. Paxos Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) brings voluntary veterinary care to the beautiful island of Paxos. PAWS provides veterinary services for 7 months throughout the summer season. It also supports winter feeding by building and maintaining feeding stations around the island.  PAWS hopes to improve education on animal welfare to both children and adults, as well as improve information and treatment for Leishmaniasis. Although there is no facility for a rescue centre on Paxos, PAWS does its best to rehome abandoned animals when they are brought in.

The Animal Welfare Association of Kymi-Aliveri cares for stray animals, their feeding, sterilization, vaccination and medical care. The association has organized a basic shelter for about 70 animals, while another 50 are temporarily in volunteers' homes.

ANIMA – Wild Life Conservation Society – is an association that was founded in 2005, from people with long experience in the care of wild animals in Greece as well as from veterinarians, biologists, foresters and friends of nature and the wild life.  One of the main objectives of Anima is the nursing and rehabilitation of wild animals in their natural habitat.  Anima in collaboration with other organizations that deal with the care of wild animals, collaborate in order to meet the needs for protection and maintenance of wild life in Greece since there’s no official governmental organization that deals with such issues. Receiving wild animals from all over Greece, ANIMA nurses over 4.000 birds, mammals and reptiles on an annual basis. Among these animals, are many rare and endangered wild species.

Animaid Animal Rescue was founded in 2018 with the primary goal of the protection and rescue of stray dogs and cats in Aspropyrgos, a town 20km west of Athens. Our actions focus on reducing the population of stray animals through sterilizations, the maintenance of good health of the stray animals through providing food and antiparacite treatments (antiworm pills and tick/flees/mosquitos spot on), taking care of injured animals by providing first aid and veterinary clinic services, adoptions, provide information and training to the local community and in general the society regarding the wellbeing of stray and owned dogs/cats and intervention in cases of abuse.
